The Government of India has started some natural programmes and projects like Project Tigerto save the tigers from being extinct. It is now promoting wildlife awareness in every nook and corner of the country.
The Project Tiger was established with an aim to provide tigers safe havens so that they are not killed. This project enabled the tigers to flourish as a species. For the implementation of the project only 9 national parks. Gradually a total of 19 national parks came under the Project Tiger.
Several other national parks have taken steps to protect those species which are on the verge of extinction. For instance, the Gir National Parks the one and only home to the existing Asiatic lions in India. Yet another remarkable instance is that of the The Kaziranga Sanctuary is Assam that functions as a habitat the endangered Rhinoceros. Then, Periyar in Kerala conserves the Wild Elephants.
In addition to these, there are jungle lodges and nature camps have been established. These projects have been started not only to save the declining numbers of animals but to encourage eco-tourism as well. Eco-tourism is not merely a catch phrase. It is more than just a word as far as nature loving travel is concerned.
Eco-tourism aims at preserving and the diversity of the natural and cultural heritage of the world. In place where it operates, it accommodates guests in away that offers minimum destruction to the environment and sustains the local culture. Eco-tourism is not the responsibility of the service providers solely. It requires participation of the travellers as well.
Eco-tourism also aims at generating the tourism related income of the locals. The revenue that is generated from the tourism motivates the government to fund training programs and conservation projects. Eco-tourism is all about saving the surrounding environment and conserving the luxuries of nature and forest life.
It is not only the responsibility of the government to establish and implement laws but also the duty of the people to follow them. Wake up before its too late. Save Wildlife, save Earth!
