Vaishali is an ancient town in the state of Bihar. It is considered as the World’s first Republic State has been named after King Vishal who ruled the place during the Ramayana period. It was world’s first democratic republic with an elected assembly of representatives in the 6th century BC at the time of the Vajjis and the Lichchavis. It was a major center of trade and industry at that time.
It is said that Lord Buddha preached his last sermon here. The national emblem of India, Ashoka Pillar is located at Vaishali. Vaishali is also the birthplace of Jainism. The 22nd Tirthankar of Jains, Lord Mahavir was born at Vaishali in 527 BC.
