Health 89 - Don't ignore this useful post

🇨🇭MUST CIRCULATE🇨🇭

Recently, one person was admitted to a Wellknown nursing home at pune, due to severe chest pain. He had an earlier attack  in 2012 and was under treatment. The doctors now suggested Angiography.

Upon undergoing Angiography at multi speciality Hospital  Doctors diagnosed multiple blockages for which Angioplasty was ruled out and instead,  suggested 'Bypass Surgery'.

That evening, he was brought home as  doctor suggested his heart being very weak, bypass could be performed only after 10 - 15 days.

Meanwhile, after discussing the matter with relatives and close friends, fresh  information came from a family friend.

A new treatment known as-"Chelox therapy, Laser therapy & Chelation Therapy" has been introduced into the Indian medical theatre.

With this therapy, a patient who has to undergo by-pass need not do so.

Instead, the patient is given about 30 bottles of IV fluids in which certain medicament are injected. The medicine cleans the system and removes all blockages from the heart and the arteries. The number of bottles given may increase depending upon the age-factor and health of the patient.
Cost per bottle may be around Rs.1300/- .

Currently, only a few doctors in India specialise in this field

One of them is DR.Vikrant Laate. In pune.

He has a list of patients who had to undergo by-pass from major hospitals; but, instead after undergoing the new treatment, they are absolutely fine and are leading a normal life. Without or minimum medicine.

Do you know that sleep is directly linked with hypertension?

Dr. Sajeev Kumar

Is Sleep Linked to Hypertension?

The link between sleep and hypertension is well-known. Studies have examined the effects of sleep deprivation on healthy volunteers and have examined the sleep patterns of people with hypertension, producing data that suggest adequate sleep may reduce risk. good cardiovascular health. Data from several studies show that people who sleep less than six hours each night are 20% more likely to develop high blood pressure.
One night of inadequate sleep in patients with hypertension has been shown to result in elevated blood pressure throughout the next day.

Average sleep times have declined

Our modern society runs 24 hours a day, and many of us curtail sleep time to keep up. From an average sleep duration of 8 to 9 hours in 1960, our national sleep duration has dropped to 6.9 to 7 hours. Many people try to get by on five to six hours of sleep nightly, a habit that may be contributing to serious long-term health conditions.

What happens when you sleep?

Sleep is restorative, most people agree. We usually don’t question why, but the fact is that the circadian rhythms of sleep regulate our nervous system and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, two critical body systems that keep our bodies in healthy balance. During sleep, normal people should experience a drop in blood pressure of about 15 points, on average. This reduces the work of your heart.

The Autonomic Nervous System and “Fight or Flight” Response

Sleep regulates the autonomic nervous system, that part of the nervous system that modulates the “fight or flight response.” This evolutionary response causes changes in many bodily functions that at one time were useful to provide an edge against predators.A constant state of preparedness from inappropriate activation of this response results in harmful stress on the body.

When the sympathetic nervous system is stimulated, blood vessels are constricted to deliver blood to vital organs like the brain and heart, increasing blood pressure. The “fight or flight” response is also associated with changes in glucose metabolism and an increased risk of insulin-resistant diabetes.

Cortisol, Adrenaline, and the Hypothalamic-Pituitary Axis

The primary hormones regulated by the pituitary and hypothalamus during sleep are adrenaline and cortisol, released by the adrenal gland. Adrenaline is a potent hormone that has a direct effect on blood pressure, mediated by constriction of the arteries. When your adrenaline levels remain high during the night, it can result in sustained hypertension.

Cortisol is a “stress hormone” that is highest in the morning and reaches a nadir between midnight and four AM. Lack of sleep can result in significant disruption of the cycle, subjecting your body to unnecessary stress responses and fatigue that are as damaging to your health as poor diet or lack of exercise.

When you awaken in the morning, your body typically experiences a 50% rise in cortisol level as your body prepares for the stress of a new day. Studies show that waking up early in the morning increases the cortisol response, an effect that is pronounced in people who are facing chronic stress and worry. Cortisol levels usually decline throughout the day, but in people who suffer from sleep loss, cortisol levels increase in the early evening, preventing natural recovery from the day and preparation for a restful night. In addition to lowered immunity, impaired glucose tolerance, and increased craving for carbohydrates, sleep deprivation is associated with elevated estrogen levels, decreased alertness, and poor concentration.

Sleep and Thyroid Hormone

Sleep loss also increases the amount of thyroid hormone in people who are not getting enough rest. People with elevated thyroid hormone have both increased blood pressure and cardiac output, putting unneeded stress on the heart.

Sleep, Obesity, and Hypertension

Sleep deprivation increases appetite by disturbing the regulation of leptin and ghrelin, two hormones that modulate appetite. Sleep deprivation alters your body’s ability to regulate the need for calories, resulting in over-eating and obesity, also linked to increased risk of hypertension.

Caffeine and Hypertension

Many of us use caffeine to remain alert when we haven’t slept well, a habit that causes dramatic increases in blood pressure. The mechanism for elevation of blood pressure after drinking a caffeinated beverage is not completely understood. Some researchers think caffeine may stimulate the adrenal gland to release adrenaline, a hormone with direct effects on blood pressure. It may block hormones that keep the arteries relaxed.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

People who have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) have multiple episodes during the night in which they stop and restart breathing. This disorder usually affects middle-age to older adults, but it can occur in patients of any age, particularly people who are overweight. People with OSA typically have high blood pressure, particularly on awakening, when their blood pressure should be at its lowest point. Symptoms of OSA include daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, morning headache, and difficulty concentrating during the day. They may be observed gasping suddenly during the night before returning to sleep.

Are You Getting Enough Sleep?

Sleep is critical for maintenance of your health. If you work shifts or curtail your sleep to accomplish multiple tasks, you are at risk for hypertension that can be difficult to treat. Measure your blood pressure in the morning. It should be at its lowest level and if it’s elevated, you should see your doctor in addition to consideration of lifestyle changes to prevent progression of medical problems associated with hypertension and sleeplessness. If you have symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea, there are effective treatments available.

Railways 16 - Indian Railways top among world's Railway employers

NEW DELHI: Two Indian organisations - Army and Railways - are among the world's biggest employers, together employing a whopping 2.7 million people, said a report.

Update: Violence in France, Tunisia and Kuwait

Updates: Friday's terrorist attacks in Tunisia, France and Kuwait

Men react after a deadly blast claimed by the Islamic State group that struck more
Terrorist attacks unfolded across the globe Friday in three gruesome scenes. Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren says it is too early to say if the attacks in Tunisia, Kuwait and France were coordinated. Here are the details:
France
What: A man was decapitated Friday in an attack on a gas factory. One person was killed and two people were hurt in the incident, which began when a car was driven into gas canisters, setting off an explosion.
Victims: French police identified the victim as the manager of a transportation company in the Rhône region, but no name has been released. Names of the other two people injured have not been released.
Suspects: Yassin Salhi, 35, was arrested Friday, said French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve. Salhi is a father of three. Cazeneuve said Salhi was known to French security forces and had suspected ties to the Islamic State. It is not clear if another suspect in the attack is at large or was killed during the incident. Several other possible accomplices were taken into custody.
Where: Lyon, a city in Southwestern France. The factory that was attacked is operated by Air Products, which is headquartered in Allentown, Pa.
Tunisia
What: Gunmen killed at least 37 people and wounded 36 Friday in an attack at coastal resort hotels in Tunisia, a spokesman for the interior ministry said. Witnesses said bodies covered with blood were strewn in the sand alongside beach chairs as the killers opened fire.
Victims: Mostly tourists
Suspects: The leader of the attack "was killed during the fire exchange with the security forces," said Interior Ministry spokesman Mohamed Ali Laroui. A second attacker fled, he said.
Where: The Hotel Riu Imperial Marhaba in the Port El Kantaoui neighborhood of Sousse. The area is a popular vacation spot for European tourists. It's located about 90 miles southeast of the capital Tunis.
Kuwait
What: At least 25 people were killed in asuicide bombing of a mosque in Kuwait City on Friday after prayers.
Victims: Shiites in prayer were killed during the attack. Abdullah al-Saffar, who was at the mosque, told the AP that the explosion took place just after midday Friday prayers. Friday midday prayers are typically the most crowded of the week, and attendance increases during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, which started last week.
Suspects: The suicide bomber appeared to be in his 20s, said Kuwaiti lawmaker Khalil al-Salih who saw the attack.
Where: The Shiite Imam Sadiq mosque is in Kuwait's capital, Kuwait City. Sunni-ruled Kuwait has a large Shia minority. The Islamic State considers Shiites to be heretics.

A suicide bomber entered a Shiite mosque in Kuwait where worshippers had gathered for Friday prayers during the holy month of Ramadan, according to medics.

Travel 111- Tell you about Geo Tourism

Geotourism deals with the natural and built environments.[1]
Geological sustainable tourism aims to conserve and promote a place as a geosite, such as theIguazu Falls in South America
Geotourism was first defined (Hose, 1995) in England.[2] There are two viewpoints of geotourism:
  1. Purely geological and geomorphologically-focused Sustainable Tourism as abiotic nature based tourism.[1] This is the definition followed in most of the world.
  2. Geographically Sustainable Tourism, the most common definition in the USA. This emphasises preservation of the geographical sense of a place in general, beyond simple geological and geomorphological features, as a new charter & concept in the sustainable tourism.

Definitions of modern geotourism

Geopark of Paleorrota, in Brazil.
Key definitions in the geological sense include:
  1. “…part of the tourist’s activity in which they have the geological patrimony as their main attraction. Their objective is to search for the protected patrimony through the conservation of their resources and of the tourist’s Environmental Awareness. For that, the use of the interpretation of the patrimony makes it accessible to the lay public, promoting its popularization and the development of the Earth sciences” .[3]
  2. “Geotourism is a knowledge -based tourism, an interdisciplinary integration of the tourism industry with conservation and interpretation of abiotic nature attributes, besides considering related cultural issues, within the geosites for the general public” .[1]
  3. "A form of natural area tourism that specifically focuses on landscape and geology. It promotes tourism to geosites and the conservation of geo-diversity and an understanding of Earth sciences through appreciation and learning. This is achieved through independent visits to geological features, use of geo-trails and view points, guided tours, geo-activities and patronage of geosite visitor centers".[4]
  4. “The provision of interpretative and service facilities for geosites and geomorphosites and their encompassing topography, together with their associated in-situ and ex-situ artefacts, to constituency-build for their conservation by generating appreciation, learning and research by and for current and future generations” .[2]

Geotourism, A New Approach

Most of the world defines geotourism as purely the study of geological and geomorphological features.
“Looking at the environment in a simplistic manner, we see that it is made up of Abiotic, Biotic and Cultural(ABC) attributes. Starting with the ‘C’ or cultural component first, we note that of three features it is this one which is generally the most known and interpreted, that is, through information about the built or cultural environment either in the past (historical accounts) or present (community customs and culture). The ‘B’ or biotic features of fauna (animals) and flora (plants) has seen a large focus of interpretation and understanding through ecotourism. But it is the first attribute of the ‘A’ or abiotic features including rocks, landforms and processes that has received the least attention in tourism, and consequently is the least known and understood. This then is the real power of geotourism, in that it puts the tourist spotlight firmly on geology, and brings it to the forefront of our understanding through tourism".[4]

National Geographic Geotourism Program

The geographical-character definition of geotourism was heavily influenced by the National Geographic Society, which defines geotourism as tourism that sustains or enhances the geographical character of a place – its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage, and the well-being of its residents. The concept of Geographical sustainable tourism with coining of the word geotourism, was introduced publicly in the USA in a 2002 report by the Travel Industry Association of America (as of 2009 this organization adapted name to U.S. Travel Association) and National Geographic Traveler magazine.[5]National Geographic senior editor Jonathan B. Tourtellot and his wife, Sally Bensusen, coined the term in 1997 in response to requests for a term and concept more encompassing thanecotourism and sustainable tourism.[6]
So National Geographic 'sGeotourism(NGG-tourism program) is "best practicetourism that sustains, or even enhances, the geographicalcharacter of a place, such as its culture, environmentheritage, and the well-being of its residents.
National Geographic 's Geotourism program incorporates sustainabilityprinciples, but in addition to the do-no-harm ethic focuses on the place as a whole. The idea of enhancement allows for development based on character of place, rather than standardized international branding, and generic architecture, food, and so on.

National Geographic Geotourism Charter

National Geographic Society has also drawn up a "Geotourism Charter" based on 13 principles:[7]
  1. Integrity of place: Enhance geographical character by developing and improving it in ways distinctive to the local, reflective of its natural and cultural heritage, so as to encourage market differentiation and cultural pride.
  2. International codes: Adhere to the principles embodied in the World Tourism Organization’s Global Code of Ethics for Tourism and the Principles of the Cultural Tourism Charter established by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
  3. Market selectivity: Encourage growth in tourism market segments most likely to appreciate, respect, and disseminate information about the distinctive assets of the locale.
  4. Market diversity: Encourage a full range of appropriate food and lodging facilities, so as to appeal to the entire demographic spectrum of the geotourism market and so maximize economic resiliency over both the short and long term.
  5. Tourist satisfaction: Ensure that satisfied, excited geotourists bring newvacation stories home and encourage friends to experience the same thing, thus providing continuing demand for the destination.
  6. Community involvement: Base tourism on community resources to the extent possible, encouraging local small businesses and civic groups to build partnerships to promote and provide a distinctive, honest visitor experience and market their locales effectively. Help businesses develop approaches to tourism that build on the area’s nature, history and culture, including food and drink, artisanryperformance arts, etc.
  7. Community benefit: Encourage micro- to medium-size enterprises and tourismbusiness strategies that emphasize economic and social benefits to involved communities, especially poverty alleviation, with clear communication of the destination stewardship policies required to maintain those benefits.
  8. Protection and enhancement of destination appeal: Encourage businesses to sustain natural habitats, heritage sites, aesthetic appeal, and local culture. Prevent degradation by keeping volumes of tourists within maximum acceptable limits. Seek business models that can operate profitably within those limits. Use persuasion, incentives, and legal enforcement as needed.
  9. Land use: Anticipate development pressures and apply techniques to prevent undesired overdevelopment and degradation. Contain resort and vacation-home sprawl, especially on coasts and islands, so as to retain a diversity of natural and scenic environments and ensure continued resident access to waterfronts. Encourage major self-contained tourism attractions, such as large-scale theme parks and convention centers unrelated to character of place, to be sited in needier locations with no significant ecological, scenic, or cultural assets.
  10. Conservation of resources: Encourage businesses to minimize water pollution, solid waste, energy consumption, water usage, landscaping chemicals, and overly bright nighttime lighting. Advertise these measures in a way that attracts the large, environmentally sympathetic tourist market.
  11. Planning: Recognize and respect immediate economic needs without sacrificing long-term character and the geotourism potential of the destination. Where tourism attracts in-migration of workers, develop new communities that themselves constitute a destination enhancement. Strive to diversify the economy and limit population influx to sustainable levels. Adopt public strategies for mitigating practices that are incompatible with geotourism and damaging to the image of the destination.
  12. Interactive interpretation: Engage both visitors and hosts in learning about the place. Encourage residents to promote the natural and cultural heritage of their communities so tourists gain a richer experience and residents develop pride in their locales.
  13. Evaluation: Establish an evaluation process to be conducted on a regular basis by an independent panel representing all stakeholder interests, and publicize evaluation results.

Success and efforts in service to achieving geotourism status

Success models: Northeast Kingdom in Vermont, Crown of the Continent in Canada and Montana and Appalachian Range were the first 3 US destinations to actively enroll the program with measured success. In Process: Lake Tahoe's 1960's tourism brand presents a daunting challenge to becoming a geotourism destination. Sustainable Tahoe is the one organization to provide a tangible demonstration of how geotourism can create long term economic regional prosperity, that includes 100 feet of lake water clarity:[1] Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village NV (North Lake Tahoe) was the first west coast college to offer a geotourism class as part of their Interdisciplinary Studies.

Geotourism as a science

Missouri State University's Bachelor of Science in Geography features a concentration in Geographical tourism--the first degree of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, and is one of only three such degrees offered worldwide. Missouri State’s Geotourism degree is the first to be associated with a department of geography.
